المساجد وملاحظات للمسافر المسلم
دليل الطعام الحلال
Edinburgh has a settled Muslim community centred on the Southside, where the Central Mosque and most halal restaurants are a short walk apart. Beyond that area, halal options thin out.
Dhuhr is around 1.15pm until the clocks go back on 25 October, then around 12.15pm. Maghrib moves from about 7pm at the start of the month to about 4.40pm by the end.
Prayer rooms
Edinburgh Airport has a multi-faith prayer room. In town there are few public musallas, so plan prayers around the Central Mosque on the Southside.
Visiting a mosque
Cover shoulders and knees; women cover their hair. Shoes off at the door.
Good to know
Ask about halal
Most places listed here state their meat is halal but do not name a certifier. If it matters to you, ask staff which supplier or body they use.
Alcohol
Pubs and most restaurants serve alcohol. The Southside restaurants around Nicolson Square are the easiest alcohol-free choice.
Seafood and vegetarian
Scotland’s fish and shellfish are excellent, and Indian vegetarian dishes are everywhere. Both are good fall-backs when halal meat is unclear.
Scottish breakfast
A full Scottish breakfast usually includes bacon, sausage and black pudding. Ask for eggs, beans, tattie scones and mushrooms instead.
