Peak outdoor season
The best month for hiking, wadis, beaches and camping; book desert camps and mountain hotels early.
Dolphins & whales
Calm winter seas suit boat trips; spinner dolphins are seen year-round, whales only occasionally.
Turtles at Ras Al Jinz
Green turtles nest year-round; December numbers are lower than the July–October peak. Book ranger-led visits.

Muscat Nights · January
Muscat’s city festival is held in January, not December; the 2026 edition ran 1–31 January at Qurum Natural Park, Al Amerat Park and other venues.
National Day · 20 November
Oman’s National Day is now marked on 20 November, so it falls before your December visit.
Public holidays
No national public holidays fall in December. Sultan’s Accession Day follows in January.
Year-end crowds
Late December brings Gulf visitors and higher hotel rates; book over the holidays well ahead.
