Good to know
Prayer times
Five daily prayers; shops may pause briefly. Use a prayer app or ask your hotel for local times.
Friday
Jumu’ah is the main gathering. Many shops and sights open late on Fridays; plan a slow morning.
Ibadi tradition
Most Omanis follow the Ibadi school, known for simplicity and tolerance. Sunni and Shia communities pray alongside.
Food is halal by default
Meat in restaurants and markets is halal as standard; international hotel menus are worth a quick check.
Alcohol
Served only in licensed hotels and some restaurants. It is never sold in souqs or ordinary cafés.
Visiting as a woman
Women pray in dedicated sections; carry a scarf and long sleeves for mosque visits.
