المساجد وملاحظات للمسافر المسلم

دليل الطعام الحلال
Paris has a large Muslim community and plenty of halal food, especially in the north and east of the city. In the tourist centre it takes a little planning.

Prayer & practicalities

Prayer spaces are rare
Museums, shops and stations in France do not normally have prayer rooms. Plan prayers at your hotel or the Grande Mosquée, and carry a light mat.
Friday prayers
Jumu’ah at the Grande Mosquée is very full; arrive early. The mosque closes to visitors on Fridays.
Visiting the mosque
Cover shoulders and knees; women cover their hair. Shoes off where asked.
Use an app
A halal-finder app with recent reviews helps. Many places describe themselves as halal; ask about certification and alcohol if it matters to you.

Good to know

Halal is not the default
Most restaurants in central Paris are not halal. Seafood, fish and vegetarian dishes are easy alternatives, but ask about wine in sauces.
Alcohol
Wine is part of most menus and many halal places also serve it. Alcohol-free drinks are always available.
Hotel breakfasts
Pork often appears on buffets; ask staff to show you the labels.
Dress
Headscarves are fine in the street, shops and museums. Face coverings that hide the face are banned in public spaces by law.
