The Citadel in the morning light, down the stairs to the Roman Theatre, then falafel at Hashem and knafeh at Habibah.
Day 2
Hills & galleries
The Jordan Museum, then Jabal Al-Weibdeh’s galleries and King Abdullah I Mosque, and dinner off Rainbow Street.
Day 3
North to Jerash
Jerash’s colonnaded streets in the morning, Ajloun Castle and the cable car after lunch.
Day 4
South to Petra
Leave early via Madaba and Mount Nebo, or drive straight down the Desert Highway. Sleep in Wadi Musa.
Day 5
Petra
Enter at opening for the Siq and the Treasury, then climb to the Monastery. Petra by Night runs Sunday to Thursday.
Day 6
Wadi Rum
Little Petra on the way, then a jeep tour into Wadi Rum and a night in a desert camp.
Day 7
Dead Sea
Drive back north along the Dead Sea, float in the afternoon and return to Amman or the airport.
Honest thought: Petra is three hours from Amman each way. A day trip is possible but rushed; one night in Wadi Musa (better, two) lets you enter at opening and see the Monastery without hurrying.
