How many days? Find the right amount of time
Essential KL
3 days minimum
KL + beyond
6+ days
A six-day rhythm
Day 1
KLCC
The Petronas Towers in the morning, KLCC Park and Aquaria KLCC after lunch, then the fountain in the park after dark.
Day 2
Islamic KL
The National Mosque, a long morning at the Islamic Arts Museum and an afternoon in the Perdana Botanical Garden or KL Bird Park.
Day 3
Old town
Masjid Jamek, Merdeka Square, Central Market and the lanes of Chinatown, with Merdeka 118 rising overhead.
Day 4
Batu Caves & Kampung Baru
Batu Caves early before the heat and crowds; Kampung Baru’s Malay food stalls in the evening.
Day 5
Putrajaya
The Putra Mosque, Putra Square and the lake bridges by train and taxi, back in KL for dinner.
Day 6+
Go higher
A day in Genting Highlands, or two nights among the tea estates of Cameron Highlands.
Honest thought: January is still the wet season. Do outdoor sights first thing, keep a mall or museum for the afternoon and always carry an umbrella.
