Temples are big and sandy, tomb corridors are steep and the sun is strong even in January. Use a carrier, plan one big site a morning and save boats and gardens for the afternoon.
Mornings can be cold (7°C in Luxor), afternoons warm: dress children in layers. Carry water, hats and snacks to the West Bank, where shade and food are scarce.
