Plan your days

How many days? Find the right amount of time
Luxor + Aswan
5 days minimum
With a Nile cruise
7–8 days

A seven-day rhythm

Day 1
Luxor East Bank
Karnak in the morning light, lunch on the corniche, then Luxor Temple at dusk when the lights come on.
Day 2
Luxor West Bank
A balloon at sunrise if you want one, then the Valley of the Kings, Hatshepsut’s temple and the Colossi of Memnon.
Day 3
Deeper West Bank
Medinet Habu, the Valley of the Queens and the Tombs of the Nobles, with a long lunch in between.
Days 4–5
Sail south
Board a cruise or dahabiya: the Esna lock, Edfu’s temple of Horus and Kom Ombo on the riverbank.
Day 6
Aswan
Philae by boat in the morning, the Nubian Museum, then a felucca to the Botanical Garden at sunset.
Day 7
Abu Simbel
Leave before dawn by road or fly, see the temples, and return to Aswan for a Nubian dinner.
Honest thought: don’t try to do Luxor in a day. Two full days is the minimum for the East and West Banks, and three is better. Start at opening time, rest in the middle of the day, and go back out for the evening.
