9/11 Memorial & Museum
Two reflecting pools on the Twin Towers’ footprints, and a moving museum below. Allow two hours.

Tenement Museum
Guided tours of restored immigrant apartments on Orchard Street. Tours only, so book ahead.

Statue of Liberty & Ellis Island
Ferries from Battery Park. Buy only from Statue City Cruises, the official operator, and book pedestal or crown access early.

MoMA
Van Gogh, Matisse and a superb design collection. Go at opening or late on Friday.

Guggenheim Museum
Frank Lloyd Wright’s spiralling ramp is the main exhibit; walk it top to bottom.

American art in Renzo Piano’s building at the foot of the High Line; terraces with Hudson views.

Old masters in a Fifth Avenue mansion, reopened in April 2025 after a major renovation. Timed tickets.

Book timed tickets for the Met, MoMA, the Frick and the Natural History Museum, especially near Christmas. Pay-what-you-wish at the Met is for New York State residents and some students only; most visitors pay standard prices. Go at opening on weekdays, and expect crowds from 20 December.
