Do not overpack museum days: fewer stops and more outdoor breaks.

Old Town & history

Phuket Old Town

The Old Town’s main street of Sino-Portuguese shophouses, with five-foot walkways, carved shutters and pastel façades.

Thai Hua Museum

A 1930s Chinese school, now a museum on the tin-mining families, Peranakan life and the Old Town. Open daily, 9am–5pm.

A Sino-Portuguese mansion of 1903, still lived in by the same family, with an open courtyard and original furniture.

Peranakannitat (Museum Phuket)

A free museum in the old Standard Chartered Bank building on Peranakan culture and the town’s history. Closed Sundays.

Phuket Mining Museum

Tin mining, which built Phuket Town, told through dioramas and a re-created street. Closed Sundays.

Temples & shrines

A 45-metre white marble Buddha on Nakkerd Hill, with views over Chalong Bay. Reopened in March 2026 after landslide repairs; free, 9am–6pm. Cover shoulders and knees.

Phuket’s most important Buddhist temple, with a tall pagoda you can climb for views. Go early, dress modestly and keep your voice low.

Shrine of Serene Light

A small Taoist shrine of 1889 down a narrow alley off Phang Nga Road, one of the Old Town’s calmest spots.

The heart of the October Vegetarian Festival, with bright red-and-gold halls near the Old Town.

Viewpoints & nature

Phuket’s southern tip and its most famous sunset point. Arrive an hour early, or watch from the quieter lighthouse side.

Karon Viewpoint

A roadside lookout above Kata Noi, Kata and Karon, three bays in one view.

A small hill above Phuket Town with views over the rooftops to the bay; lovely at dusk.

Khao Phra Thaeo & Bang Pae Waterfall

Phuket’s last area of rainforest, with a short trail to the Bang Pae waterfall and the Gibbon Rehabilitation Project nearby.

Architecture walk

Thalang Road to Soi Romanee

Shophouses with five-foot walkways, then the brightest restored lane in town.

Krabi Road mansions

Chinpracha House, the Thai Hua Museum and the grand Phra Pitak Chinpracha Mansion, now a restaurant.

Phang Nga Road and Dibuk Road

Old banks, hotels and Chinese shrines, ending at the Peranakannitat museum.

Walk the Old Town again after 6pm, when the lanterns go on and the heat has gone.

Temples ask for covered shoulders and knees. Peranakannitat and the Mining Museum close on Sundays. Big Buddha’s access road is steep with tight bends; go by taxi rather than scooter.
