Mirbat & Taqah
Two old ports in one day: Taqah’s castle and fishing beach, Khor Rori on the way, then Mirbat’s castle, harbour and the Bin Ali tomb.
Save
About 45 min by car, 1½ hr to Fazayah

About 45 min by car

Coast & hills
Mughsail
Al Marneef Cave & blowholes
A rock overhang above the sea where waves shoot up through holes in the platform. Most dramatic with a big swell; gentler once the sea calms.
Save
Mughsail
Mughsail beach
A long, wide beach backed by cliffs and a lagoon. Swim only when the sea is calm.
Save
West of Mughsail
Fazayah beach
Quiet white-sand coves under steep cliffs, reached by a twisting mountain road.
Save
Jebel Samhan foothills
Tawi Atair sinkhole
One of the largest sinkholes in the world, ringed by trees and birdsong. Viewing platforms sit at the rim.
Save
Near Taqah
Wadi Darbat
A lake, travertine cliffs and grazing herds in a green valley; the waterfall depends on the khareef’s rains.
Save
Above Mirbat
Jebel Samhan viewpoint
A high viewpoint over the coastal plain towards Mirbat, reached by a mountain road.
Save
Taqah
Taqah beach & lagoon
A wide bay with fishing boats and a lagoon behind the sand, below the town.

Good to know
Drive with care
Camels and cows wander onto mountain roads, especially at dusk. Keep your speed down.
Respect the sea
Arabian Sea currents are strong. Swim only on calm days, never alone, and stay off wet rocks near the blowholes.
Desert days
For Shisr and beyond, carry plenty of water and fuel, and go with a local guide if you plan to leave the tarmac.
Leave the trees alone
Frankincense trees are protected; do not cut or collect resin.
