Choose what to see — don’t try to see everything
Do not overpack museum days: fewer stops and more outdoor breaks.
The Land of Frankincense
Al Baleed
Al Baleed Archaeological Park
The ruins of the medieval port of Zafar, part of the UNESCO Land of Frankincense site. Paths and a lagoon boardwalk run between the old mosque, citadel and walls.

Al Baleed

Two halls inside the park: a History Hall on Oman from ancient times, and a Maritime Hall with traditional boats and the story of the sea trade.

Near Taqah
Sumhuram & Khor Rori
A walled incense port founded more than 2,000 years ago above a calm lagoon, part of the UNESCO site. A large development plan for the park was signed in 2026.

North of Salalah
Wadi Dawkah
A protected valley of wild frankincense trees on the road north, also part of the UNESCO site. Look, but do not cut the bark.

Old Mirbat
Carved wooden windows and doors on old merchant houses near the harbour; many are fragile, so admire them from the street.

Old Haffa lanes
Look for older coral-stone houses and carved doors on the streets behind the souq.
Mirbat harbour
The castle, the old merchant houses and the fishing boats, best in the soft light before sunset.
Taqah town
The castle, the watchtower on the hill and the fishing beach below, in one short loop.
