Mosques & Muslim traveller notes

Halal food finder
Salzburg has two mosques side by side and a handful of halal restaurants near the station. We found none in Hallstatt, so pack food for the day.

Good to know

Pork is common
Schnitzel is often pork unless it says Kalb (veal) or Huhn (chicken); sausages, Speck and Schmalz (lard) are pork.
Wine in the kitchen
Sauces and some desserts use wine or rum; Mozartkugeln and many cakes are fine, but ask.
Prayer times in February
Dhuhr is around 12:20. Maghrib moves from about 17:15 in early February to about 17:45 at the end of the month.
Ramadan
Fasts are about 12 hours. Restaurants keep normal hours; ask your hotel for an early breakfast tray for suhoor.
Hallstatt day
We found no halal restaurant or mosque in Hallstatt. Take a packed lunch from Salzburg and pray in a quiet corner or back at your hotel.
Halal listings come from community sites and can change. Ask each restaurant about certification, shared grills and alcohol before you order.
