Burek, coffee & sweets

How to drink Bosnian coffee
Let the grounds settle, dip the sugar cube, take a bite and then a sip. Rahat lokum comes on the side.
Tufahija & baklava
Look for tufahija, a poached apple stuffed with walnuts, and syrupy baklava in the old town’s sweet shops.

The October plate

Bosanski lonac on a cool evening
Bosnia’s slow-cooked pot of meat and autumn vegetables is made for October. Follow it with tufahija and a coffee.
Muslim traveller note: meat in traditional Bosnian restaurants is halal as a rule, but many central restaurants serve alcohol. The grill and pie shops of Baščaršija are the simplest choice.
