Prayer & practicalities
Prayer rooms
Haneda and Narita have prayer rooms with wudu facilities. Some department stores, malls and attractions have quiet rooms; ask at the information desk.
Friday prayer
Tokyo Camii holds Jumu’ah with the prayer at 13:00; arrive early, as it fills up.
Visiting a mosque
Cover shoulders and knees; women cover their hair. Book Tokyo Camii group tours at least a week ahead.
Useful tools
The Halal Food in Japan and Japan Masjid Finder sites list restaurants, prayer spaces and mosques by area.
Good to know
Halal is not the default
Pork and pork stock are common, and mirin, sake and some soy sauces contain alcohol. “Muslim-friendly” is not the same as certified; ask.
Seafood and vegetarian strategy
Sushi, sashimi, grilled fish, tofu dishes and shōjin ryōri (temple vegetarian cooking) work well. Ask about dashi and mirin.
Convenience stores
Rice balls with salmon, tuna or kelp and plain onigiri are easy snacks; read labels for pork and alcohol (アルコール).
Ramadan is not this month
November 2026 has normal hours everywhere.
