Before you go

Pack for rain
October averages well over 100 mm of rain on the coast. A waterproof jacket and shoes with grip matter more than anything else.
Check flights
Direct Gulf flights to Trabzon are busiest in summer; in October you may need to connect through Istanbul or Ankara.
Get a MüzeKart
If you plan several state sites, compare the MüzeKart with single tickets; Sümela accepts it.
Hire a car or driver
Sights are spread across valleys. Drive carefully on wet mountain roads, or book a driver for each day trip.
Cash and cards
Cards work in hotels and most restaurants; carry lira for villages, tea gardens and parking.
Start early
Sümela and Uzungöl fill up by late morning, even in autumn. Be first through the gate.
Skip mad honey
Do not buy or eat rhododendron “deli bal”; it can cause serious poisoning.
Ask before photos
Ask before photographing people, especially women in the villages.
Football days
Trabzonspor home matches fill the city with fans and traffic; check the fixture list.
Stay connected
Buy a local SIM or an eSIM before you land; WhatsApp is the easiest way to reach hotels and drivers.
Trabzon is safe and welcoming. Watch for landslide warnings after heavy rain, and check the entry rules for your passport before you travel.
