Heritage in Muscat
Muscat combines one of the Gulf’s great modern mosques with easy access to Oman’s historic forts of the interior.
Al Ghubrah
Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque
Opened in 2001, with a vast Persian-style carpet, a Swarovski chandelier and fine tilework. Non-Muslim visitors are welcome Saturday to Thursday mornings until 11:00, not Fridays; cover arms and legs, and women cover their hair.

Nizwa Fort
The 17th-century round tower of the Ya’ariba imams, beside Nizwa’s old mosque and souq, once a centre of Ibadi scholarship. Go on a Friday morning for the livestock market; check fort hours before you go.
