Shop Baku

Streets, centres and stores worth a detour

What to bring home

A carpet
Ask the shop for the paperwork needed to export it, especially for older pieces.
Kelaghayi
The patterned silk headscarf, a UNESCO-listed craft.
Armudu glasses & tea
Pear-shaped glasses and loose Azerbaijani black tea.
Jams & sweets
White cherry, fig or walnut jam, and boxes of pakhlava and shekerbura.
Ask who made a piece and where. Check materials and shipping. Bargain politely only where invited; respect fixed prices in boutiques and artisan shops. Bargaining is expected for carpets in the Old City; malls keep fixed prices.
