Galle with children

A stroller-friendly rhythm matters more than chasing every attraction
Mornings for the beach and the ramparts, afternoons in the shade, evenings for gelato in the Fort.

Attractions

Galle town
Galle International Stadium
The cricket ground between the Fort and the harbour; children can watch local matches from the ramparts above.
Koggala
Koggala Lake boat trip
A gentle boat ride among mangrove islands, including a cinnamon island where peeling is demonstrated.
Koggala
Stilt fishermen at Koggala
Fishermen perched on poles in the surf; best at dawn or dusk. A small tip is expected for photos.

Beaches

Unawatuna
Unawatuna Beach
A sheltered bay with shallow water in the dry season; the west end is calmest.
Unawatuna
Jungle Beach
A small cove below Rumassala, reached by a steep path or by boat. Calm for snorkelling on good days.
Dalawella
Dalawella rock pools
Reef-protected pools for paddling and spotting fish; watch the tide.
Weligama
Weligama Bay
Long, gentle waves and kids’ surf lessons on the sand.
Check flags before swimming: currents can be strong even in December. Bring sun hats, swim shirts and insect repellent, and carry water on tuk-tuk days.
