The historic market, founded in 1570 and on Place Broglie since 1871. Look for the illuminated arch at the entrance.

The big dates
Friday 27 November: opening
The 2026 markets open on 27 November. In recent years the chalets have run until 24 December; check the 2026 closing date.
6 December: Saint Nicholas
Bakeries fill with manala brioches, and children receive sweets in Alsatian tradition.
Advent Sundays
29 November and 6, 13 and 20 December: concerts in churches and busy markets.
24–26 December
Chalets close early on the 24th. Many restaurants and all city museums close on the 25th; the 26th is also a holiday in Alsace.

Weekday afternoons are calmest; Saturday evenings are the busiest of the week.
Europe closes for the holidays
The European Parliament’s visitor centre is closed from 24 December 2026 to 3 January 2027.
