The January plate

Raclette by the fire
Melted cheese scraped over potatoes with pickled onions and gherkins. It is naturally meat-free and alcohol-free, so it suits most Muslim travellers. Check that no cured meats are added to the platter.
Muslim traveller note: outside the halal kitchens in Interlaken, choose vegetarian or fish dishes and ask about wine, gelatine, bacon and lard. Mountain restaurants can be busy at lunch in January; eat early or late.
