The February plate

Raclette by the fire
A wheel of Valais cheese is melted and scraped onto boiled potatoes with pickled onions and gherkins. Simple, warming and usually alcohol-free; confirm when you order.
Muslim traveller note: most restaurants are not halal and many dishes use wine or pork. Choose fish, cheese and vegetarian plates, ask about wine in sauces, and book February dinners and mountain lunches ahead.
